Still Struggling

After a failed attempt to run on Boxing day I needed to resume training and chose today before the new year celebrations. I went to Fyvie Castle, reason being it is flat and a one mile circuit around the lake. Two circuits later and it was all over, thats all I could do as the right leg started to protest.
It was a nice day for a run though and good to get out, if only for two miles.
Here's hoping I can build up from this run today.
A family walk on new years day will fit in with my plan before attempting a whopping three miles on Monday.

Happy New Year when it comes.

Up Against It

Little did I know it, but after entering the whw race I have struggled with injury, not the best of starts.
I ran round Haddo estate last saturday and felt something wrong with my right leg after only three miles.
I now think the problem is coming from my hamstring which is not getting any better.

Today I put Hal Higdons 24 week Ultra program into my diary for the race. I have three weeks to shake off
this niggle and get onto the training programme or its all over early January.

I seem to struggle with injury before every ultra I do so this is no exception.

On the plus side - i have bought a pair of Hoka Mafate One One off road shoes so I can't wait to try them out.

Another week off

Its Friday night and after a busy week at work I type this blog drinking a few red wines. I decided to take another week off running, trying to shake off the ITB niggle. A sickness bug is in the household which I have so far been lucky enough to avoid. Hoping to start running again on Sunday and I am drawn to a run over Bennachie, even though I should be easing into training slowly. We'll see what happens over the weekend.

ITB

After taking a week off running I went to the Braes of Gight today. Easy run for 1 hour 50 mins but the ITB niggle remains. I should have known better and taken more time off but the urge to run is a strong one. Not sure what the training plan will be this week, maybe I should book into the Gym instead and build up core strength.

On the plus side, one of my brothers has responded and I think he will be okay to support me at the whw.

Just been accepted for the west highland way race 2012. The shine has been taken off the good news with a niggling ITB Syndrome, probably caused by upping my milage too much. I should have known better, so its  ITB stretches and lower the milage a bit for now. They don't know it yet, but I have planned for two of my brothers to support. Messaged them tonight and I await their replies.......

Another Challenge

I started running in 2005 to lose weight and get fit. Little did I know how much the running bug would bite. Six years later and I have applied for a place in the West Highland Way Race. The entry list is decided  tomorrow, so hopefully I  will be succesful. Today was the first snow of the winter, so I went to my favourite running place, the Braes of Gight. The scenery was stunning in the late winter sun. I took it easy, stopping every now and again to photograph the trails.
